"My first contact with PageGroup was as a candidate - when I relocated back to Malaysia from the United Kingdom. The recruiter that I was in contact with suggested I could be a great fit for the business and there were two things that attracted me to PageGroup - its culture and organic growth strategy. It was important for me to join a company that provides an open and fun work culture with a focus on coaching and development and a meritocratic work culture."

How have you grown with PageGroup?

I used to run a direct sales business in the UK and I was prepared to start from the bottom again seeing that recruitment was something new to me. I joined PageGroup as an Associate Consultant and progressed through to Consultant, Senior Consultant, Manager and Associate Director. I oversee two different teams in four years.

What is the most rewarding part of your job?

The most rewarding part of my job is seeing people grow, building their confidence in doing the job and most definitely promoting them to new roles. That is probably the most rewarding and fulfilling part of my job.

What is the usual day-to-day schedule for you at PageGroup?

I start my morning planning my day. A usual morning will be a combination of team meetings, client/candidate calls, business development sessions, sourcing and administration work. Most afternoons are spent meeting candidates for a face to face interview and out meeting with potential client prospects.

What is the best thing about working for PageGroup?

The best thing is definitely the people and culture. I meet with so many people on a daily basis and often I hear people complain about their jobs. Here at PageGroup, we work hard and play hard and I cannot find any other place where everyone is motivated to achieve big goals and really know how to celebrate success after.

What attracted you to a career in recruitment?

I never thought of recruitment as a career option until I stumbled into PageGroup as a candidate. The main attraction for me was getting the opportunity to develop my previous skills further and grow my career within the company. Recruitment is all about dealing with different people and I enjoy that part of the job.

What advice would you give to graduates who are looking to join the recruitment industry?

If you like a role that is challenging, performance driven and has a high engagement with people, then recruitment may be an option for you. When I was a graduate, the key things that were important for me was identifying a company that invests in training and development, has an open and fun work culture with opportunities to grow and progress. I believe PageGroup can offer all that and is a fantastic platform for any new graduate. My advice for anyone starting in the business is to have the willingness to learn, a great attitude to deal with challenges as the job deals with a lot of difficult people situations. You will need to have the tenacity to just keep going.
