Job Description

  • Manage daily paint shop production operations to ensure stable output and consistent quality
  • Maintain process efficiency while meeting production targets (JPH)
  • Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and quality standards in the automotive industry
  • Enforce adherence to Malaysian statutory requirements (OSH Act 1994, FMA 1967, EQA 1974)

Production Operations

  • Oversee end‑to‑end paint shop processes: pre‑treatment, ED, primer, topcoat, oven curing
  • Achieve production targets through effective shift and manpower management
  • Monitor paint booths, conveyors, and oven curing performance
  • Coordinate closely with maintenance, quality, and planning teams



Process Control & Optimisation

  • Control critical paint parameters (temperature, humidity, viscosity, flow rate, spray pressure)
  • Improve paint transfer efficiency, cycle time, and material consumption
  • Troubleshoot process instability, downtime, and implement countermeasures



Quality Assurance

  • Ensure compliance with paint quality specifications (thickness, adhesion, gloss, appearance)
  • Investigate and resolve paint defects (orange peel, sagging, blistering, contamination)
  • Support ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and IATF 16949 systems
  • Participate in internal and customer audits



Equipment & Maintenance

  • Ensure reliable operation of spray robots, manual guns, paint booths, ovens, and conveyors
  • Coordinate preventive and corrective maintenance activities
  • Track equipment performance, MTBF, and MTTR



Safety, Health & Environment

  • Ensure compliance with DOSH and DOE requirements
  • Enforce safe handling of paint chemicals, solvents, and flammable materials
  • Monitor PPE usage, HIRARC implementation, VOC emissions, and exhaust systems
  • Manage scheduled waste and support environmental audits and reporting



Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain production, process parameter, and quality inspection records
  • Analyse OEE, downtime, and rejection trends
  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly operational reports

The Successful Applicant

A successful Production Engineer should have:

    • Bachelor's Degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering or equivalent
    • Minimum 3-5 years' experience in automotive paint shop operations
    • Strong knowledge of pre‑treatment, ED, topcoat and curing processes
    • Hands‑on experience with robotic or manual painting systems
    • Proven paint defect analysis and troubleshooting capability
    • Familiar with conveyorised systems and automation
    • Knowledge of SPC, 7 QC tools, and process control methods
    • Strong problem‑solving skills (8D, root cause analysis)
    • Good communication, teamwork, and data analysis skills
