Job Description

  • Monitor and interpret regulatory developments across APAC markets to ensure ongoing legal and compliance alignment.
  • Adapt and implement regional compliance policies and frameworks that are practical, enforceable, and aligned with local regulations.
  • Drive compliance awareness and enforcement across the region while managing a network of regional compliance representatives.
  • Conduct regular compliance reviews, audits, and risk assessments, and provide recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements such as vendor contracts, partnerships, NDAs, and licensing arrangements.
  • Provide legal guidance on business initiatives, market expansion, product launches, and associated regulatory risks.
  • Manage relationships with external legal counsel, including oversight of legal costs and service performance.
  • Ensure effective corporate governance and corporate secretarial compliance for regional entities, including maintenance of statutory records and board matters.
  • Support regional compliance with data privacy, ESG, and employment laws in collaboration with global legal and compliance stakeholders.
  • Promote ethical business practices by overseeing the Code of Conduct, whistleblower processes, and internal investigations relating to misconduct or regulatory breaches.

The Successful Applicant

A successful Legal & Compliance Manager - APAC should have:

  • Bachelor of Laws (LLB) or an equivalent legal qualification with at least 6 to 8 years of experience in legal and compliance functions, including a minimum of 3 years in an in-house counsel or regional capacity.
  • Demonstrated experience handling cross-border legal, compliance, and regulatory matters within the APAC region.
  • Strong commercial mindset with the ability to provide practical legal advice while aligning with business priorities and risk considerations.
  • Excellent contract drafting, negotiation, and stakeholder communication skills in English; additional proficiency in Bahasa Malaysia or other regional languages is an added advantage.
