Job Description



Engineering & Product Development

  • Lead Engineering and R&D teams to achieve quality, performance, project, and delivery objectives.
  • Ensure the accuracy and integrity of bills of materials (BOM), technical drawings, engineering databases, and related engineering documentation.
  • Monitor project and build-order costs, including component pricing and other cost drivers.
  • Manage prototype, pilot, and new product development programmes, including testing, validation, commissioning, and milestone management.
  • Act as the technical lead for product development initiatives.
  • Coordinate technical matters and project activities with OEMs and external engineering partners.
  • Ensure engineering projects are delivered efficiently, cost-effectively, and with minimal disruption to operations.
  • Provide technical guidance and problem-solving support to manufacturing and operational teams.



Engineering Governance & Continuous Improvement

  • Oversee engineering change management, including design reviews, approvals, validation, and documentation.
  • Assess and qualify alternative materials, components, and suppliers based on quality, performance, and cost requirements.
  • Maintain engineering records, technical documentation, and knowledge-management systems.
  • Drive engineering process improvements to enhance competitiveness and support future business needs.



Leadership & Resource Management

  • Lead performance reviews and identify capability gaps within the engineering team.
  • Develop training and succession plans to strengthen technical capabilities.
  • Allocate engineering resources to support operational and project priorities.
  • Establish, track, and review team objectives and performance indicators.
  • Foster a culture of coaching, collaboration, and knowledge sharing.



Commercial & Strategic Support

  • Oversee cost estimation activities and engineering costing exercises.
  • Work closely with internal stakeholders and external partners on engineering priorities and product development requirements.
  • Balance short-term operational demands with long-term engineering and innovation objectives.

The Successful Applicant

A successful Head Of Engineering should have:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronic Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in engineering, product development, manufacturing, design, or related technical functions.
  • Proven experience leading engineering projects from concept through implementation.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience managing technical teams and engineering resources.
  • Strong knowledge of engineering design principles and technical drawings.
  • Experience managing BOMs, engineering databases, and technical documentation.
  • Background in new product development, prototype builds, testing, commissioning, and validation.
  • Experience with engineering change management processes.
  • Knowledge of material, component, and supplier evaluation.
  • Understanding of cost estimation, budgeting, and engineering cost control.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Effective stakeholder management skills, including working with OEMs and external technical partners.
  • Experience within industrial vehicles, heavy equipment, machinery, automotive, material handling, or engineering-focused manufacturing environments is advantageous.
  • Strong leadership, communication, coaching, and team development skills.
  • Commercially aware with the ability to balance operational, technical, and business priorities.
