Job Description

  • Develop and maintain applications using Smart COBOL, SQL/DB2, and AS400 / IBM i technologies.
  • Support and maintain General Insurance (GI) business functions, including Policy Administration, Claims, Underwriting, Receivables, and Accounting.
  • Investigate system issues and perform detailed root cause analysis to resolve production incidents and application defects.
  • Ensure solutions are robust, maintainable, and compliant with business and technology standards.
  • Participate in all phases of the SDLC, including requirements gathering, design, development, testing, implementation, and post-production support.
  • Support system integration activities and ensure smooth data flows across interconnected applications.
  • Work closely with business stakeholders and cross-functional teams to deliver system enhancements and improvements.
  • Prepare and maintain technical documentation and operational support artefacts.

The Successful Applicant

A successful Application Developer (AS400/Cobol) should have:

  • Minimum 8 years of hands-on experience
  • Strong development experience in Smart COBOL, SQL/DB2, and AS400 / IBM i technologies.
  • Solid understanding of General Insurance business processes, including Policy Administration, Underwriting, Claims, Receivables, and Accounting.
  • Experience in application development, enhancement, maintenance, and production support.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to perform system impact analysis and recommend practical solutions.
  • Good understanding of system integration, data flows, and interfacing within the Policy Asia ecosystem.
  • Experience across the full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), including requirements analysis, design, development, testing, implementation, and support.
  • Knowledge of BusinessObjects or similar reporting tools is an added advantage.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while managing multiple priorities.
  • Strong communication, stakeholder management, and documentation skills.
  • High level of ownership, accountability, and commitment to delivering quality solutions
