Job Description

  • Develop, implement, and continuously enhance legal strategies, frameworks, policies, and contract templates to support business growth while ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Monitor and interpret local, regional, and international legal and regulatory developments, providing proactive guidance to stakeholders on legal risks and compliance requirements.
  • Lead the drafting, review, negotiation, and execution of a wide range of commercial agreements, including lease agreements, vendor contracts, service agreements, and other business-critical documents.
  • Conduct legal due diligence, judicial inquiries, and comprehensive risk assessments to identify potential legal, financial, and operational exposures, and recommend appropriate mitigation measures.
  • Provide strategic legal support throughout tendering, procurement, and business development processes to ensure contractual and regulatory compliance.
  • Manage, investigate, and resolve disputes, claims, and litigation matters while safeguarding the organization's legal and commercial interests.
  • Establish and maintain effective contract management processes, governance frameworks, and best practices for contract execution, administration, record-keeping, and compliance monitoring.
  • Partner closely with cross-functional teams, including Finance, Sales, Operations, and Commercial stakeholders, to provide practical and commercially focused legal advice.
  • Support corporate governance activities by drafting corporate documentation, policies, board resolutions, and governance guidelines, ensuring adherence to statutory and regulatory requirements.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the legal function to strengthen risk management, operational efficiency, and alignment between legal objectives and business priorities.

The Successful Applicant

A successful Legal Counsel should have:

  • A degree in Law with at least 7 to 8 years of relevant legal experience in private practice and/or in-house environments.
  • Strong experience in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial contracts and agreements.
  • Proven ability to conduct legal due diligence, assess risks, and provide practical business-focused legal advice.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to advise and influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Experience in leasing, real estate, retail, or commercial property-related legal matters would be an added advantage.
  • Knowledge of corporate governance, regulatory compliance, dispute resolution, and tendering processes.
