An industry-leading engineering organization is seeking a Technical Team Leader - Data Center MEP to oversee the design, delivery, and technical governance of mission-critical MEP systems across large-scale data center projects. This role combines deep technical expertise in power and cooling infrastructure with people leadership, ensuring projects meet operational reliability, energy efficiency, safety, and Tier-compliance requirements.

Job Description

Technical Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead and mentor a team of 5-12 MEP professionals, including engineers, designers, technicians, and site coordinators.
  • Allocate resources, monitor progress, provide technical guidance, and support professional development.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and facilitate continuous skills enhancement within the team.



Engineering Delivery & Project Oversight

  • Manage design reviews, value engineering initiatives, construction coordination, and change management activities for data center MEP systems.
  • Ensure engineering deliverables meet project specifications, operational requirements, and industry standards.
  • Review and guide the preparation ofMEP technical documentation, including:
    • Equipment layouts
    • Coordination drawings
    • Schematics
    • As-built drawings



Critical Infrastructure Technical GovernanceProvide technical leadership and fault analysis for mission-critical systems, including:

Power Systems

  • Modular UPS systems
  • Battery management systems
  • Redundancy architectures
  • Static and dynamic bypass systems
  • Maintenance and reliability strategies



Cooling Systems

  • In-Row Cooling
  • Wind Wall Cooling
  • CRAC/CRAH systems
  • Chilled and hot water loop systems
  • Airflow management optimization
  • Liquid cooling support solutions



Electrical Distribution Systems

  • Power Distribution Units (PDU)
  • Intelligent PDUs
  • Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS)
  • Switchgear systems
  • Busway systems
  • Power monitoring and integration platforms



Stakeholder Management

  • Participate in technical clarification meetings with clients, consultants, contractors, and vendors.
  • Resolve complex technical and engineering issues throughout project execution.
  • Coordinate cross-functional teams to ensure project success.



Commissioning & Compliance

  • Support commissioning activities from Level 1-5, integrated systems testing, validation, and final project handover.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable standards and best practices, including:
    • Uptime Institute Tier III/IV
    • ASHRAE TC9.9
    • BCx commissioning standards
    • Local regulatory requirements



Documentation & Continuous Improvement

  • Prepare technical reports, risk assessments, change requests, and lessons learned documentation.
  • Lead root cause investigations and recommend corrective actions.
  • Drive energy efficiency improvements and reliability enhancement initiatives.

The Successful Applicant

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, MEP Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng/BEM) certification or equivalent is advantageous.



Experience

  • Minimum 8-12 years of MEP engineering experience within mission-critical environments.
  • At least 2 years of experience leading engineering or technical teams in data center projects.
  • Proven involvement across the full lifecycle of data center developments, including new builds, expansions, or retrofit projects.
  • Experience with Tier III or higher data center facilities is highly desirable.



Technical Expertise

  • Strong knowledge of UPS systems, battery technologies, redundancy schemes, and fault diagnosis.
  • Extensive understanding of precision cooling technologies, including In-Row and Wind Wall cooling solutions.
  • Experience with electrical power distribution systems and critical facility infrastructure.
  • Ability to review and guide MEP design documentation and engineering drawings.
  • Familiarity with data center commissioning methodologies and operational readiness processes.
  • Knowledge of energy efficiency optimization and root cause analysis techniques.



Software Skills

  • Proficient in AutoCAD (mandatory).
  • Experience with Revit, Navisworks, BIM 360, or other BIM platforms is preferred.



Leadership & Communication

  • Demonstrated experience managing teams of five or more technical professionals.
  • Strong stakeholder management and cross-functional coordination skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written English communication abilities.
  • Capable of leading technical discussions and preparing professional engineering documentation.
  • Strong analytical mindset with the ability to make informed decisions in fast-paced, high-pressure environments.
