Job Description

The Commercial Director, Retail Pharmacy holds end‑to‑end responsibility for commercial performance, spanning category management, merchandising strategy, pricing, promotions, and overall trading outcomes. The role leads senior commercial teams and works closely with Operations, Supply Chain, and Marketing to deliver aligned, scalable results across the business. Key responsibilities include:

  • Define and lead the overall commercial and merchandising strategy for the retail pharmacy business, aligned to enterprise objectives.
  • Own sales, margin, and profitability outcomes, with clear accountability for commercial performance.
  • Provide senior leadership to category, merchandising, and commercial teams, setting direction and raising capability.
  • Drive disciplined category management, including assortment strategy, pricing architecture, and promotional effectiveness.
  • Balance short‑term trading performance with longer‑term commercial sustainability and capability building.
  • Partner with senior stakeholders across Operations, Supply Chain, and Marketing to ensure aligned execution at scale.
  • Establish clear governance, performance management, and decision‑making frameworks for commercial activities.
  • Lead supplier and partner engagement at a strategic level to unlock value and competitive advantage.
  • Identify growth opportunities across formats, categories, and customer segments, supported by data and insight.
  • Act as a trusted commercial advisor to senior leadership, contributing to broader business strategy and transformation initiatives.


The Successful Applicant

We are seeking a seasoned commercial leader with proven experience running complex retail or consumer businesses and delivering sustained, profitable growth. Key requirements include:

  • Degree‑qualified, with 15+ years of progressive commercial leadership experience in retail, FMCG, or consumer‑driven businesses.
  • Demonstrated success in enterprise‑level commercial or GM‑equivalent roles, with material P&L responsibility.
  • Deep expertise in retail trading, category management, merchandising, and commercial strategy.
  • Proven ability to lead and develop senior, multi‑layered commercial teams.
  • Strong commercial judgment with the confidence to make high‑impact decisions.
  • Track record of working effectively with cross‑functional peers at executive level.
  • Highly analytical, yet pragmatic and execution‑focused.
  • Comfortable operating in fast‑paced, high‑accountability environments with scale and complexity.
