About Our Client

A leading EMS (Electronics Manufacturing Services) client in Malaysia is seeking an experienced NPI Purchasing Manager to join their expanding team in the Northern Region. With a strong vision to strengthen their market position and enhance global competitiveness, the company continues to build its success on operational excellence, strategic supplier partnerships, and continuous innovation.

As part of their next phase of growth, they are looking for a dynamic procurement professional who can lead New Product Introduction (NPI) purchasing activities, ensuring timely sourcing and cost-effective procurement of materials to support product launches. The role will play a critical part in coordinating with engineering, program management, and suppliers to ensure smooth transitions from development to mass production.

The NPI Purchasing Manager will be responsible for driving supplier selection, managing project timelines, mitigating supply risks, and ensuring material readiness for new programs. Additionally, the role will contribute to improving cost competitiveness, supplier performance, and overall supply chain efficiency to support the company's expanding business and successful product introductions.

Job Description

  • Partner closely with R&D, engineering, and program teams to understand product requirements, BOM changes, and support NPI project timelines.
  • Lead sourcing strategies for new components, ensuring timely supplier selection, cost competitiveness, and alignment with NPI milestones.
  • Act as the procurement lead in NPI programs, providing regular updates on sourcing status, risks, and mitigation plans.
  • Collaborate with quality, manufacturing, and suppliers to ensure readiness, compliance, and successful product launches.
  • Drive cost optimization initiatives through early supplier involvement, design-to-cost strategies, and make-vs-buy/localization decisions.
  • Identify and mitigate supply risks (e.g., new technologies, single sourcing, long lead-time items) while ensuring material availability and smooth transition to mass production.
  • Lead team performance and continuous improvement initiatives, including ERP data accuracy, supplier management, process optimization, compliance, and crisis management.

The Successful Applicant

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Engineering, Business, or a related field; MBA or equivalent is an advantage.
  • Minimum 8+ years of experience in procurement or supply chain, with at least 4 years in NPI or project-based purchasing.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, BOM structures, and product lifecycle management (PLM).
  • Proven negotiation and supplier management skills, with experience working with global suppliers.
  • Proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., SAP) with good knowledge of procurement and planning modules.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and project leadership skills in cross-functional environments.
  • Familiarity with data digitalization, analytics, and reporting tools such as Power BI and Tableau.

What's on Offer

  • Be part of a globally recognised organisation.
  • Work in a dynamic, innovative environment with opportunities for growth.
  • Competitive remuneration and benefits package.
