Job Description

  • Lead and manage the mechanical application engineering team to deliver designs on time, within quality and technical standards.
  • Provide technical direction for the design of customised material handling and automation solutions aligned to customer needs.
  • Review and sign off on concepts, 3D models, 2D drawings, BOMs and all related engineering documentation.
  • Champion design optimisation, modularisation and standardisation across product platforms.
  • Work closely with Sales, Project Management, Electrical and Software teams to ensure full system integration.
  • Participate in technical reviews, discussions and presentations with customers during pre‑sales and post‑sales stages.
  • Oversee manpower planning, hiring, coaching and performance management within the engineering team.
  • Establish and enforce engineering SOPs, design standards and quality control processes.
  • Track and manage engineering KPIs including timelines, cost performance and customer satisfaction.
  • Identify project risks and drive timely technical or resource mitigation actions.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards (e.g. SEMI, ISO) and internal policies.
  • Support ongoing skills development and career progression of team members.
  • Lead advanced troubleshooting and root cause analysis for escalated design or production issues.
  • Manage departmental budgets, engineering tools and software licences.

The Successful Applicant

A successful Mechanical Engineering Manager should have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • At least 8 years' experience in mechanical design or application engineering, including a minimum of 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Strong background in automation systems, machine design and semiconductor or cleanroom environments.
  • Proven people leadership, coaching and decision‑making capability.
  • Confident communicator able to engage stakeholders at all organisational levels.
  • Strategic mindset with a hands‑on, solutions‑driven approach.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and perform under tight timelines.
  • Strong grounding in mechanical design principles, safety standards, ergonomics and manufacturing processes.
  • Experience across the full product development lifecycle, including risk management, FMEA and DOE.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with cross‑functional engineering and project teams.
  • Proficient in SolidWorks, AutoCAD and related CAD tools.
  • Strong competency in mechanical calculations, material selection and tolerance analysis.
  • Working knowledge of SEMI standards and cleanroom equipment requirements preferred.
  • Capable of reviewing and approving complex engineering designs and technical documentation.
