About Our Client

A large and leading Fintech company is currently looking to recruit a Legal Counsel to join their team based in Kuala Lumpur. By leveraging technological innovation, our client provides innovative and convenient financial solutions and services.

Job Description

  • Rendering expert legal guidance to the international business team on a broad range of cross-border legal and regulatory matters which include but not limited to drafting, negotiating, and/or reviewing client contracts, analyzing legal aspects of new product initiatives, and advising on legal and regulatory changes impacting the embedded finance sector.
  • Leading legal efforts related to a variety of financial products, such as payments, lending, technology, liquidity management, foreign exchange, and other relevant offerings.
  • Partnering with the compliance team to effectively identify and manage regulatory and compliance risks.
  • Working alongside legal experts from various jurisdictions and disciplines, including financial regulation, data privacy, intellectual property, and tax law, to ensure comprehensive legal support.
  • Managing relationships with external legal advisors, ensuring efficient, cost-effective, and high-quality legal support.
  • Proactively escalating issues when necessary and collaborate with team members to provide cohesive support for business objectives.

The Successful Applicant

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Law from a common law jurisdiction.
  • At least 5 years of post-qualification experience (PQE).
  • Previous experience in banking, payments, or a related field is highly desirable.
  • Fluency in Mandarin (both written and spoken) is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of regulatory and compliance matters within the payments or financial sector.
  • Excellent technical, drafting, negotiation, and analytical abilities, combined with sound commercial judgement.
  • A highly motivated self-starter with excellent project management skills and a collaborative team-oriented mindset.
  • Effective advocacy and communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to influence cross-functional teams and stakeholders management skills.
