Job Description

  • Provide early-stage legal support in negotiations and business dealings, advising all departments on contractual, regulatory, and compliance matters.
  • Participate in business negotiations and settlement discussions with third parties, and oversee the timely preparation of meeting minutes and related reports.
  • Review corporate actions, proposed ventures, and regulatory developments, and recommend appropriate legal strategies and alternatives to the Group.
  • Manage intellectual property matters, including identifying required registrations and coordinating with external solicitors to ensure timely completion.
  • Lead and manage the Legal Department by planning resources, setting performance standards, and mentoring a team of legal counsels to ensure consistent service delivery.
  • Identify key legal issues and training needs, and facilitate legal awareness programs for staff through internal or external expertise.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain governance frameworks, including the Group Board Charter, directors' conflict of interest policies, and corporate responsibility initiatives.



The Successful Applicant

A successful General Manager, Group Legal should have:

  • A recognized professional certificate, Bachelor's degree, postgraduate diploma, or professional qualification in Law or its equivalent.
  • Admitted to the Malaysian Bar or an equivalent professional body is an added advantage.
  • Minimum of 8 - 10 years' experience in a law firm or in-house legal role, with strong exposure to corporate and commercial drafting and advisory work.
  • Solid understanding of business operations and organizational processes.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with excellent organizational and training capabilities.
  • Interpersonal skills with the ability to build effective working relationships.
