Job Description

Financial Accounting & Reporting:

  • Oversee the preparation and timely submission of accurate financial statements in accordance with Malaysian Financial Reporting Standards (MFRS), relevant statutory requirements, and specific accounting guidelines for the oil & gas industry (e.g., upstream, midstream, downstream).
  • Manage the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing processes, ensuring adherence to strict deadlines.
  • Ensure compliance with Bursa Malaysia listing requirements (if applicable) and other regulatory bodies relevant to the oil & gas sector in Malaysia (e.g., PETRONAS, SKK Migas if involved in Indonesian operations).
  • Manage the tax accounting function, including the preparation and filing of corporate tax, petroleum income tax (if applicable), withholding tax, and other relevant taxes specific to the oil & gas industry in Malaysia.
  • Coordinate and manage relationships with external auditors, tax advisors, and regulatory authorities.



Cost & Operational Accounting:

  • Develop and maintain robust cost accounting systems to track and analyze costs across the oil & gas value chain (exploration, production, refining, distribution, etc.).
  • Analyze production costs, lifting costs, operating expenses, and capital expenditures, identifying variances and opportunities for efficiency improvements.
  • Oversee inventory accounting for crude oil, natural gas, and refined products.
  • Provide financial support and analysis to operational teams, including production, engineering, and supply chain.



Budgeting, Forecasting & Financial Planning:

  • Lead the development of annual budgets, forecasts, and long-term financial plans, incorporating the unique economic and operational factors of the oil & gas industry (e.g., commodity price volatility, project timelines, capital intensity).
  • Monitor financial performance against budgets and forecasts, providing insightful variance analysis and recommendations.
  • Develop and maintain complex financial models to support investment decisions, project evaluations, and strategic planning.



Treasury & Risk Management:

  • Manage the company's cash flow, ensuring optimal liquidity for operational needs and capital projects.
  • Oversee banking relationships and manage financing activities.
  • Manage financial risks inherent in the oil & gas industry, including commodity price risk, foreign exchange risk, interest rate risk, and credit risk. Implement hedging strategies where appropriate.
  • Ensure compliance with treasury policies and procedures.



Internal Controls & Compliance:

  • Establish and maintain a strong system of internal controls to safeguard assets, ensure the integrity of financial information, and comply with relevant regulations, including those specific to the oil & gas sector.
  • Ensure adherence to company policies and procedures.



Team Leadership & Development:

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing finance team.
  • Foster a collaborative and results-oriented work environment.

The Successful Applicant

  • Degree in Finance, Accounting or related professional qualification. Those with Master Degree will have added advantage;
  • Minimum 10-15 years related experience in similar field;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Candidate with experience holding financial controller / management role will have an added advantage;
  • Experienced in liaising with bankers on funding requirements & project accounting;
  • Strong commercial awareness and business acumen;
  • Candidate possesses sound knowledge of manufacturing financial operations will have an added advantage;
  • Excellent leadership skills and able to motivate and develops others;
  • Aggressive, visionary and willing to take calculated risk for dynamic business growth;
  • Attentive to details, alert and capable of identifying business growth & cost saving opportunity as well as process improvement alternative;
  • Strong understanding of latest accounting standard;
  • Strong reporting and organizational skills.
